Snowdon via Crib Goch

  • Traverse the famous Crib Goch ridge to the summit of Snowdon
  • Qualified and experienced mountain guides
  • Small group adventures throughout the year
  • BOOK THROUGH TO OCTOBER 2024!

Without doubt the most awesome route to the top of Snowdon has to be via Crib Goch. With grade one scrambles and a knife-edged arête it’s the ultimate Snowdon challenge.

It starts with an easy climb from Pen y Pass along the Pyg Track before veering off to tackle the exposed ridge of Crib Goch. The bravest will march confidently along the top whilst the more nervous will be on all fours with most people managing a bit of both! The pinnacles give you a bit of easy vertical scrambling before the easy walk to Snowdon’s summit. Your return journey will be along the Miners’ Track where you’ll have amazing views back up to Crib Goch.

We can take you and your family, small group of friends or whole organisation around the Snowdon Horseshoe at any time of the spring, summer or autumn (conditions depending). We’ll chat to you in advance, discuss your needs and ensure you’ve got the right gear for an enjoyable day out. On the day we’ll meet you at the start point and guide you safely along the route and supply you with entertaining facts and bad jokes along the way.

Look out for your MountainXperience guide near the Wardens' Office. Parking can be difficult at Pen-y-Pass so we recommend leaving your car in Llanberis or Nant Peris and use the Snowdon Sherpa (Sherpa'r Wyddfa) service. If you have any problems on the day please give us a call.

Important information

Thanks for booking our Snowdon via Crib Goch adventure! I'm really excited to meet you and take you on this amazing trip.

This message contains some important information you might find useful.

Where do we need to meet?

Please meet your guide Simon by the bus stop in the Pen-y-Pass car park.

  • Royal Mail Postcode:
LL55 4NY

  • Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/ev5CUioL4J6wQJ277

  • What3Words: ///doctor.twee.parading

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PARKING: There is VERY limited parking available at Pen-y-Pass. You MUST pre-book your parking well in advance to secure a spot. Visit www.justpark.com and search for 'Maes Parcio Pen-y-Pass / Pen-y-Pass Car Park'. It usually costs around £20-£30 for the day.

If you're not able to book a place in the Pen-y-Pass car park, you'll need to use the Nant Peris Park & Ride:

  • Royal Mail Postcode (not very accurate):
LL55 4UH

  • Google Maps: https://g.page/parking-for-yr-wyddfa-snowdon

  • What3Words: ///riverbank.usual.acclaim

This is a large car park a few miles down the road from Pen-y-Pass. From here you can catch the Snowdon Sherpa (Sherpa'r Wyddfa) bus up the Pass. The bus takes around ten minutes and run frequently on summer weekends.

The Snowdon Sherpa bus also runs from Llanberis which you may find easier if you're staying there.

What time should we be there?

Please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the activity start time. This gives your guide the opportunity to check you've got everything you need and for you to ask any questions. Our walks usually start at 8am but check your booking confirmation to confirm.

What do we need to bring with us?

We’re going to be out walking for anywhere between five and eight hours so you’ll need food and water to last you. I recommend a variety of snacks rather than a big lunch and a minimum of one litre of water per person. There are a couple of little shops in the centre of Llanberis that open early in the morning if you need some bits. The summit cafe typically opens around June but then only on good weather days so don't rely on this either. Please remember to eat something for breakfast. You're going to be working hard and will need that energy boost to start your day.

Please have a look at the weather before setting off and dress accordingly. Better to have an extra fleece and wooly hat in your bag just in case. Temperatures are typically 10°C colder at the summit than at the start point. If it’s a wet day then you’ll need waterproofs too.

Is there a book I could buy that will tell me everything I need to know about climbing my first mountain?

What a great question. Yes there is! And it's written by me :) Visit https://www.howtoclimbamountain.uk to find out more and get your signed copy.

What about toilets?

There are public toilets open 24/7 at Pen-y-Pass. If the summit visitor centre is open then toilets are available there however these shouldn't be relied upon.

Do you have any tips in advance of the day?

We sure do - have a look at these useful blog posts:

What do we do if something goes wrong on the day?

If you’re running late or get lost or need to stop to use the toilet on your way, don’t worry. Please call or WhatsApp Simon on 01248 614120 to keep him updated.

Do we need to let you know about any medical issues?

Yes please. If there's something you think your guide should be aware of please get in touch or have a quiet word on the day.

What if we still have a question?

Please get in touch and ask and I’ll happily help. You can email me at hello@mountainxperience.uk or call or WhatsApp me on 01248 614120.
